You are currently viewing What is Tallowed Touch? [Our Tallow Products]

100% grass-fed tallow is awesome! Since you know how I was introduced to tallow, what tallow is and it’s benefits. Now I would like to answer the question “What is Tallowed Touch?” The answer is: Mother Makings’ Tallow Balms and Tallow Lip Balms.

What Ingredients are in Mother Makings’ Tallow Products

If you are like me then ingredients are key to whether you will buy something or not.

All of our Tallowed Touch Tallow Balms and Tallow Lip Balms are handcrafted from authentic food quality ingredients in small batches.

They NEVER contain petroleum products, artificial preservatives, artificial ingredients or synthetic fragrances.

Locally Sourced 100% Grass-fed Beef Tallow

The chief ingredient in all of Mother Makings tallow balms and tallow lip balms is 100% grass-fed beef tallow (aka suet) locally sourced from Hickory Nut Gap Meats® . The beef cattle that they raise are non-GMO, grass-fed, grass-finished and are certified Step 4: Pasture Centered through Global Animal Partnership. The cattle are an important part of the green spaces where they live creating a positive impact on their local environment rather than the negative one created by beef cattle in feedlots.

Hickory Nut Gap Meats®  is a community leader in sustainability in Fairview which is near Asheville, NC. Besides raising grass-fed, grass-finished cows they also have a program that allows smaller farms in the southeast of the United States to raise cows in the same way and to sell under their name as well as their high and sustainable requirements. This gives the smaller farms access to a larger market for their grass-fed beef.

But what is tallow? – you may be wondering if you just started here. Read more about tallow here:

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Mother Makings uses first, cold-pressed organic extra virgin olive oil to make the tallow balms more spreadable, since tallow by itself is hard as wax. Olive oil is also a traditional, nourishing, whole food skin care ingredient and has been used for thousands of years.

Organic Essential Oils

The essentials oils that Mother Makings uses are all certified organic and of the highest quality. They are chosen for their beneficial properties for skin care. I source them here.

Organic Plant Matter

Mother Makings Infused Tallowed Touch line contains Hickory Nut Gap Meats® tallow infused with:

  • Organic Rose Petals
  • Organic Vanilla Beans
  • Or Organic Cinnamon Chips

I almost always source these from one of my favorite companies, Mountain Rose Herbs. They provide some of the highest quality organic herbs and spices that are available. Their mission is people, plants, and planet over profit. See what sustainability means for them

Organic Castor Oil

Tallowed Touch Tallow Lip Balms are made with organic castor oil rather than olive oil.

In Stephanie Tourles book, Organic Body Care Recipes:175 Homemade Herbal Formulas for Glowing Skin & a Vibrant Self (p.64), she says “[Castor oil] is highly emollient and provides staying power and shine to lip balm and lip gloss recipes”.

These words inspired me to try it in my tallow lip balms since I wanted a more lip hugging consistency than that of my tallow balms. It worked so well that it became a regular ingredient in my Tallowed Touch Tallow Lip Balms.

Beeswax is included in Tallowed Touch Tallow Lip Balms in order to achieve the consistency that I wanted in a lip balm and to create a heavier barrier to seal moisture into the lips. It also smells delicious!

Mother Makings’ Tallow Product Lines

Tallowed Touch Tallow Balms

Tallowed Touch is Mother Makings version of tallow balm, a popular skin care product made from the fat of ruminant animals.

Tallowed Touch is an emollient and healing balm that can be used all over the body to soften and protect the skin. It has been shown to be especially beneficial for eczema, psoriasis or any dry, rough skin. It can even be used on the face and lips. A little goes a long way!

Tallowed Touch Tallow Balms are available in:

Infused Tallowed Touch ™ Tallow Balms

This is my unique line of Infused tallow balms which have organic rose petals, vanilla beans or cinnamon chips infused directly into the tallow itself. This infusion creates a more complex scent than what is achieved with essential oils alone.

Infused Tallowed Touch Tallow Balms are available in:

Tallowed Touch ™ Tallow Lip Balms

Mother Makings’ tallow lip balms are specially crafted for a scrumptious and long-lasting lip balm experience.

These tallow lip balms do not contain olive oil but rather organic castor oil and beeswax.
